Volcom Pipe Pro Live Event Coverage

LIVE EVENT COVERAGE | CONTENT CREATION | PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT

How I managed a team of 10 and captured over 50 assets at the 2020 Volcom Pipe Pro…

In early 2020, Lead Live Social Producer got added to my job description at Red Bull. This meant for all our tentpole events (Volcom Pipe Pro, Burton US Open, Red Bull Dance Your Style, etc), I would run the team managing the social coverage of the events on the Red Bull channels (@redbullsurfing and @redbull). This typically included a team of 4 producers, 3 editors, and 2-4 filmers. I worked with the team and our global counterparts leading up to the event to create a content plan of over 50+ assets, then formulated the daily plan once there to make sure it was all captured. I coordinated talent, told the filmers where to go and what to shoot, helped the producers prioritize what to capture, kept the editors on a schedule, and negotiated with the programming team about what should go live and when - all from the live production control room.

2020 Volcom Pipe Pro was one of my first events in the Lead Live Social Producer role and it was a total success. We not only turned out assets in real-time to update the community on standings and results, but also turned out unique social formats (like the Volcom Science segment below) and an Instagram face filter to create a well-rounded and comprehensive event coverage. Enjoy some of my favorite assets that we created below.
